This heirloom paste tomato is a great size for fresh eating, or salsa, as well as for cooking and preserving as tomato sauces. They have a juicier, and sweeter flavor than most paste tomatoes, but cook beautifully; exposing, and holding, the rich brilliant color that they have both inside and out. Some paste tomatoes have that paler pinker color inside but not this 6 oz + beauty. It produces large clusters of bright red plum-shaped tomatoes within 72 days. It does well in both containers or raised beds if you pay close attention to the moisture it must receive in order to produce and maintain fruit. Tomatoes are fertilizer and water hogs, just like roses. This is an old tomato from Parma, Italy where it was found in the 1950’s. It is an Indeterminate tomato which will grow and produce fruit until killed by frost. Use Pyrethrin or crop row covers to discourage flea beetles early in the season, when they can be most destructive. These tomatoes are quite firm, crack resistant, again, deep red and they possess a stunning resistance to verticillium, fusarium and horizontal resistance to the leaf phase of early blight and late blight. This is a tomato that you are going to be very happy you have tried, as it has so many uses and has such a wonderful flavor and color.
