Nicotiana rustica is a wild tobacco and is ceremonially used by Native Americans. It is also called Mapacho Tobacco in South America and Thuoc Lao in Vietnam.Nicotiana rustica was also ingested by chewing, snuffing or as an enema. Additionally, it was used to treat bruises, sprains, infected wounds and to treat baldness.The Onondagas nation, considered the rustica to be “Real Tobacco,’ and in also usedit in their formula for protection against bad spirits, or witches, as did the Iroquois.
