Throughout spring and early summer, it bears scented, lavender blue flowers held in clusters and loved by butterflies, and bees. It is a member of the phlox family known by the common names blue-head gilia, blue field gilia, gily-flower, and globe gillia. This even grows in the heat of New Mexico and Arizona and yet all the way up into Alaska as well.
