Product Details

Aromatic Native American incense herb. It is used to make the smudge sticks common in Native American ceremonies and to also use loosely in order to add other herbs and resins to your mixture. Medicinal: Used for skin washes and as a natural deodorant. Mild tea is used as a general tonic.

Mizz Tizzy’s grows both Artemisia ludoviciana (Prairie Sage) and Salvia apiana (White Sage), which are the most used in the US by Native Americans. The use of sage is for healing. The smoke is used to bless, cleanse and heal the person, object(s), and areas which are being smudged. Sage is used to “wash off” the outside world when one enters ceremony or other sacred space. Objects are likewise washed off with sage “medicine” smoke to rid them of unwanted influences. It has been medically proven that doing this will also work as an anti-bacterial and it is suggested to be done after an illness to rid your room or home of germs. This has actually been researched and proven effective in germ killing.

True sages within the U.S. are those mentioned above which we grow here. Salvia apiana (White Sage), also called Sacred Sage. Many of the herbs called sage come from a completely different family of plants, the Asteracea family. This family brings us the genus of Artemisia from which come New Mexico Desert Sage (Artemisia tridentada), and the sage from the Dakotas (Artemisia ludoviciana), also called Grey sage, Prairie sage, Dakota sage, Lakota Sage. All of these sages (Salvia and Artemisia) are used for healing and cleansing. Common Cullinary sage, Salvia Officinalis ( or garden sage) really is not used, and has a rather bad odor to it.
The White Sage can be burned whole while holding them in your hand, or placed into the shell, or they can be cut into smaller pieces and burned in the shell.

To burn the Sage, light the herb at the far end away from you hand. For safety reasons, when holding a lit sage bundle have a bowl or shell to place it in, the same when you are using loose herbs and sage.

Quantity: 1.5 oz

Includes a clam shell to hold the herbs as you smudge with them (see photo).
