A member of the pea family, Baptisia australis, is a native of Central and North America. It is also known as Blue Wild Indigo, and Rattleweed, Rattlebush, and Horse Fly Weed. And it is a Nitrogen fixer. Cherokee used it as a blue dye source. The roots have been used for medicinal purposes to treat tooth aches, nausea, and as an eyewash.
